The quiet foundations of trust in business

The small signals that help clients feel confident choosing you

There’s something about those quieter moments in business that make us pause.

We reflect on what’s working, what isn’t, and what we want to do differently going forward. Not in a dramatic, all-or-nothing way, but more thoughtfully. More intentionally.

And for a lot of business owners I speak to, one intention comes up again and again.

“I want people to trust me before they get in touch.”

Not louder. Not flashier. Just clearer. More human.

Good intentions are lovely. Action is better.

I meet so many brilliant business owners who are incredible at what they do, but almost invisible online. Their work is solid, their values are clear, yet when a potential client lands on their website or Instagram, there’s very little sense of who they are.

And that matters.

People don’t just buy services. They buy people they feel connected to and confident in. If someone can’t see you, hear from you or get a sense of your personality, it’s much harder for them to choose you.

This isn’t about chasing trends or performing online. It’s about giving your audience enough to feel comfortable taking the next step.

Building trust doesn’t mean changing who you are

This is where a lot of people get stuck.

Building trust does not mean:

  • Dancing on Reels
  • Oversharing your life
  • Becoming someone you’re not

It means being visible in a way that feels aligned. Sharing your face. Your energy. Your expertise. Letting people see the human behind the business.

When clients come to me for a personal brand shoot, they’re rarely confident in front of the camera. That’s completely normal. My job is to create a space where they feel relaxed and like themselves, because that’s what your audience connects with. Not perfection. Not polish. You.

If you’re planning to update your photos and want something practical to guide you through it, I’ve put together a simple guide on how to prepare for a personal branding photoshoot.

Let trust do the work before the conversation

If you want to grow your business, build stronger relationships with your audience or attract clients who genuinely get you, trust has to come first.

You don’t have to do everything at once. You don’t have to be everywhere. But allowing yourself to be seen, in a way that feels comfortable and considered, is a powerful place to start.

And if the idea of being photographed makes you want to quietly close this tab, know this. Almost everyone feels that way. And almost everyone is glad they did it anyway.

This is how trust is built. Quietly. Consistently. Long before the first conversation.
